With the Calgary Flames still not performing and the team reportedly looking at tearing down part of their roster to start a rebuild, things obviously aren't going as planned early on this season. However, it's looking like if they were to enter a rebuild, they'll have trouble retaining their stars.
According to Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger of TSN, the Flames were close to an extension with defender Noah Hanifin, but talks have since stopped and if they're looking to rebuild with rumours surrounding Zadorov, Tanev and now Hanifin, there's one superstar who won't want to be there and will be looking to move on; take a look.
LeBrun:
Hanifin extension was close to 60M in total. Ship has now sailed.
3-4 teams already in on Tanev. Dilemma with Tanev, trade now or wait/risk injury
Dreger: Kadri not interested in staying with the Flames if they rebuild
With Kadri in the second year of a long-term deal this isn't ideal for the Flames or their fans, but with his age, it makes sense why he would want to go to a competitive team to have another fun or two at a cup.
Kadri, 33, has struggled early on this year with just 8 points in 14 games played, including 2 goals and 6 assists.
It would be interesting to see which contender Kadri could hep if he indeed forces his way out of Calgary.
