NHL referees continue to prove they are the softest with awful penalty call
NHL referees have developed quite the reputation of the last couple years of being extremely sensitive. The referees have been given the directive to shut down any and all criticism and they've taken it seriously. Officials have issued more unsportsmanlike conduct penalties over the last two seasons than ever before.
Tonight the officials continued that trend. In a preseason game between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, the referees were at it again. As the Lightning dump the puck into the zone, Mikey Eyssimont is held up by the out of position referee leading to a turnover.
On his way out of the zone Eyssimont yelled back at the referee. Instead of just admitting he made a mistake the referee immediately threw up his arm and called Eyssimont for unsportsmanlike conduct.
This is just another example of the league justifying their referee's poor performance and doing everything they can to keep criticism at a minimum.
