Being a police officer, security guard or private security guard are not easy jobs. There is a a fine line between doing what is required to keep people safe and using excessive force. This public matter has been under debate and under the public microscope more so than ever.
Last night after the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Colorado Avalanche, an incident occurred between a private security guard and a member of the public. As the individual appears to resist, a member of security team lifts his knee in forcefully drives it into the face of the man cutting him wide open. In the video you can see blood smear on the floor after the incident.
An unfortunate scene at the end of the Toronto maple leafs game. A security guard is seen to use their full body weight to stomp in a man's head on the ground with their knee. @MLSEPR pic.twitter.com/aaTQblJWoc Jurassic 416 🇨🇦 (@jurassicsquare) January 14, 2024
Fans can be heard screaming at security advocating for the man as he bled on the ground. Toronto police have not confirmed they have seen the video but have reported they responded to the Scotiabank Arena at 9:48 p.m. on Saturday night for what they described as, "an arrest in relation to an assault." Please confirm a 37-year-old man was taken into custody and is under investigation.
Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment confirmed that they are aware and an incident has taken place and are conducting a full investigation along with Toronto police services. There is definitely enough evidence here to terminate the security guard and hopefully the man on the receiving end of this beat down is all right.
