The LA Kings dominated Vancouver 5-1 recently, and now captain Quinn Hughes has called out his teammates for their poor performance as they look to turn things around and make a Stanley Cup push.
The Vancouver Canucks haven't been at their best as of late, with J.T. Miller's effort defining their game against the Los Angeles Kings, which saw them fall 5-1 in dominant fashion.
Now, captain Quinn Hughes has called on the team as a whole to improve as they remain in a tight battle for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, noting that they were simply giving their opponents easy looks all night.
"I mean, I feel like we had our chances. It's more that we were just, you know, giving them freebies. I mean, the problem for our team tonight wasn't that we weren't getting looks; it was that we were just giving them everything.
I mean, if you wanted to look at the Carolina game a week ago, you could say that you know, we weren't getting looks. But tonight it was just giving them odd-man rushes, loose."
While it was one of their worst performances of the year for many individuals and as a team, Hughes remains incredibly optimistic moving forward, although he stresses that at this time of the year, the Canucks need to be figuring things out.
«I'm an optimistic guy. I believe in our group. In saying that, it's game 44 tonight, we need to be figuring out our stuff quickly.»
With a potential trade of players like Miller, Elias Pettersson or Brock Boeser on the way, there could be many changes upcoming for the Canucks, but given the talent that they've got when 100% healthy, this is a team that should be contending for the Stanley Cup.
