Vegas Golden Knights Launch Groundbreaking High School Hockey League
The Vegas Golden Knights continue to build their legacy in their home in Nevada, having just launched a new high school hockey league in their region.
The Vegas Golden Knights Hockey League (VGKHL) is a new initiative to support high school hockey in the Las Vegas Valley that is to be introduced next April by the Vegas Golden Knights.
The new league is to give up-and-coming players a competitive path and also support high school hockey in the valley.
The VGKHL, to be competed between April to July, is to be divided between major and minor squads, each of whom is to be composed of 20 players.
There are eight different areas of the valley each team is to be associated with, offering more of their students a chance to play in organized high school hockey. The matches are to be competed in three of the better rinks in the valley.
Each team will play 15 games
The squads are to compete a total of 15 matches in their season. The Golden Knights organization is hopeful that VGKHL is going to be a start to making high school hockey a sanctioned sport in their state.
«We've got some real cool jerseys made up. I think it's going to be a fun league for all the kids,» said Adam Miller, Director of Hockey at City National Arena, who is helping with the league.
If it is a success, it can open up more possibilities for more schools to start their team and compete at a higher level.
With over 1,600 youngsters already competing on the ice playing hockey in the region, VGKHL is a new opportunity for high school players to get a taste of action.
Registration is already in place, and there also are open auditions in March. The season is completed in July when a team is declared VGKHL champion.
