In the wake of another short playoff run, it seems Bruins management is keen on making changes to potentially rebuild the club. The team announced the dismissal of renowned head coach Bruce Cassidy yesterday, and today, the Athletic is speculating that management may look to move past their star forward, David Pastrnak.

After a slow start to this season, Pastrnak heated up to his expected offensive production, finishing the season with 40 goals and 77 points in 72 games. Only making $6.6M this year and an Unrestricted Free Agent at the end of this year, his contract situation would be extremely manageable for a cup-contending team to add an offensive superstar.

Fluto Shinzawa of the Athletic speculated in a piece earlier today that the Bruins, in context of firing Cassidy, could look to trade this star player on an expiring deal to launch themselves into a quick re-build, and compete for the Stanley Cup again in short order.

Of course, this comment was pure speculation, but the Athletic is a reliable source, and it makes sense in the context of failed previous playoff appearances and the dismissal of their excellent coach. However, General Manager Don Sweeney did comment today that he expects the club to be competitive again next year. Dealing Pastrnak would not help that situation, but the Bruins of the past have never been shy to make bold moves to improve the team.
