Insider James Nichols reports that General Manager Lou Lamoriello is in the final year of his contract and there has been no extension offered to him. At least not yet. Lamoriello stepped in for the Islanders in the summer of 2018. Since then the Islander have made the playoffs three times. The team appeared to be on an upward swing especially after a very close conference final loss to the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning. Recall they lost 1-0 in a game 7 loss.
Since then the team really has not found it's stride again. They are one of the oldest teams in the league and constantly struggle to score goals. Lamoriello made a few adjustments to the lineup but none that have made any lasting change. If the Islanders miss the playoffs again, this could be the last of Lamoriello on Long Island.
