Noah Hannifin linked to 3 teams via trade as Calgary Flames look to extract maximum value
Erik Karlsson was considered the hottest trade piece on the market. Now that Karlsson has been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, attention has turned towards the Calgary Flames and Noah Hannifin.
Earlier this summer Hannifin informed the Flames that he had no intention of signing a new contract with the team. Hannifin becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer. This summer Hannifin also requested a possible trade to an American team.
With so many free agents needing new contracts many assumed that the Flames would accomodate Hannifin's request. So far that is yet to happen, but it appears trade talks are heating up.
According to Lyle Richardson of The Hockey News there are 3 teams currently in hot pursuit of Hannifin's services.
The Sabres, Red Wings and Predators have sufficient cap space to absorb Hanifin's cap hit. They also have depth in promising young players and draft picks to tempt the Flames.
Hannifin has also been connected to the Toronto Maple Leafs and would be a significant upgrade to almost every teams defense corps. With a new Head Coach and General Manager it will be very interesting to see how the Flames approach next season and handle all of their upcoming free agents.
