Toronto Marlies' Sunday afternoon game delayed for an important reason
There are things just out of people's control sometimes and one of those things had unfortunately delayed the Toronto Marlies game late Sunday afternoon.
According to AHL insider Tony Androck on X, the Marlies were supposed to go against the Cleveland Monsters on home ice, starting at 4 p.m. The reason for the delay was because the team doctor was not yet in the building, and the rule is that the doctor must be present in order for the game to begin.
I'm sure the game delay was annoying and potentially inconvenient for the attendees, but hockey is a dangerous game and ultimately safety comes first. Regardless of how long the delay was, having a doctor on-site at a hockey game could potentially prevent a life-or-death situation.
