After months of speculation, the Boston Bruins parted ways with Jim Montgomery following the teams 8-9-3 start to the season, officially starting a new chapter in the history of the storied franchise.
In his place, the team moved Assistant Coach Joe Sacco to the Interim Head Coach role, as he has great familiarity with the team as he looks to spark them moving forward as they look to turn their season around.
Now, according to reporter Connor Ryan of the Boston Globe, Sacco has made his first huge decision as Head Coach of the Bruins, officially naming Joonas Korpisalo as starter in the first game of his new reign.
This comes in the wake of major struggles from starter Jeremy Swayman, who has lost four of his last five starts in net, allowing 20 goals on 149 shots in that time, which isn't the type of production they expected when they signed him to a huge deal this past summer.
While Korpisalo hasn't been much better this season, he has posted a .901 save percentage through seven appearances thus far, and with a 2.74 GAA, he has performed much better than expected after being part of the deal that moved Linus Ullmark this past off-season.
This is definitely not a permanent move, as Swayman is the team's unquestioned No. 1 in net, but to make the move for his first game as Head Coach takes guts for Sacco, and if he can somehow find a way to get both goaltenders going, this is a team that's ready to make a statement in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
