NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman is exposing where exactly things went wrong in the end of the relationship between the Bruins and now-ex captain Brad Marchand.

After a decade and a half of time with the Boston Bruins and 1.5 years of serving as captain, Brad Marchand has been traded to the divisional foe Florida Panthers.

Ironically, Marchand now joins the club that had knocked him and his now-ex Bruins teammates out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs the last 2 years in a row.

The Bruins retained 50% of Marchand's salary while also receiving a conditional 2nd round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft from the Panthers.

The Bruins and Marchand weren't able to hammer out a contract extension, and now further details have been revealed by NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman.

Per Friedman, things went south when Marchand was called into a "face to face" meeting with Bruins management in order to try and get him to compromise on a new contract at a massive discount.

Reportedly, the Bruins low-balled Marchand into less than half of his current AAV (average annual value) of $6.125 million with an offer of $3 million annually.

While Marchand isn't getting any younger at 36 years of age, he's still amassed 47 points (21G, 26A) in 61 games before being traded to Florida and proven he can still be an effective on-ice presence.

The division-leading Panthers are going for their 2nd consecutive Stanley Cup win, while the Bruins have begun tearing it down and are on extremely shaky ground when it comes to their chances at the postseason.
