Failed Blockbuster Trade Between the Bruins and Avalanche Leaks Publicly
The Edmonton Oilers traded for Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic, though there was nearly a different blockbuster deal involving the Colorado Avalanche.
One of many trades that is expected to come between now and Friday afternoon's Trade Deadline was completed on Tuesday, as the Edmonton Oilers acquired Trent Frederic and Max Jones from the Boston Bruins as part of a 3-team deal.
The New Jersey Devils were also involved, retaining 50% of Frederic's salary and sending Boston the rights to unsigned draft choice Petr Hauser. Immediately afterward, the Bruins flipped Hauser and Jones to the Oilers in exchange for prospect Max Wanner, the Blues' 2025 2nd round pick (belonging to the Oilers) and the Oilers' 2026 4th round pick.
However, this deal nearly didn't go down thanks to the reported interest of the Colorado Avalanche.
Per a report from AJ Haefele of DNVR, the Avalanche were in on Frederic and also wanted Brandon Carlo, and were willing to part ways with highly-touted prospects like Cal Ritchie and defenseman Sam Malinski to make it happen.
The Avalanche have already acquired considerable assets, picking up Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey from the New York Rangers in a recent trade.
But because they reportedly swung and missed on Trent Frederic and Brandon Carlo, there could be another big trade attempt before Friday's Deadline.
