Insider Reveals Boston Bruins' Shocking Trade Candidate Following Jim Montgomery's Firing
An insider revealed the Boston Bruins' shocking trade candidate following Jim Montgomery's firing.
Fans and experts weren't surprised to learn that Don Sweeney, the Boston Bruins general manager, announced the firing of Jim Montgomery as head coach.
Montgomery was replaced by Joe Sacco, who's been with the Bruins organization for 10 years.
The captain Brad Marchand spoke out about Montgomery's departure, saying it's a frustrating situation for the whole team:
"Very disappointing day, and also very frustrating is this [is] a reflection of our play. And it was avoidable. That's the tough part about this is that if we had done our job in here, he would still be around, so [we] feel terrible as a group, individually that we let a really good coach and a really good person down and the effect it has not just on him, but on his family. It's a crappy day."
If the team doesn't want to force their GM to make more moves, they'll need to produce on the ice:
"But as a league source noted this week, 'I don't think anyone in Boston thought this is where they'd be at.' If the decision to replace Jim Montgomery with Joe Sacco behind the Bruins bench doesn't produce the desired results, some difficult personnel decisions will almost certainly follow."
Fortunately, last night, in Sacco's first game as interim head coach, the Bruins won 1-0 over the Utah Hockey Club.
If the Bruins can't build on that momentum, massive changes should come.
The situation is surprising for everyone, especially after the franchise's success in recent years.
What is even more surprising is knowing that the team could consider trading their captain Brad Marchand, according to Chris Johnston:
"This is not a player we expected to find on the Big Board, even if he's currently playing out the final year on his contract."
Marchand is indeed in the final year of his eight-year, $6,125,000 AAV contract.
While Montgomery's departure shocked some people, just imagine how a trade involving Marchand would create a wave in the hockey world.
He spent his whole career in Boston, the team that drafted him 71st overall in 2006. 1050 games, 1069 points, and a Stanley Cup later, it's hard to imagine the team without Marchand.
This would mark the end of an era for the franchise but, hopefully, the start of a new one as well.
