Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk's suspected groin injury has been a major talking point coming out of the Four Nations, and now Panthers coach Paul Maurice has confirmed he'll return this year, even if it appears as though his injury is considered a longer one.
The Four Nations Face Off was a big win for the NHL, but coming out of the tournament it appears that there have been several long-term injuries suffered, including to Matthew Tkachuk, for whom recent reports emerged that his season could be over.
The team have now returned to regular season action, and after their latest game, Paul Maurice was asked about Tkachuk's status, and it appears that earlier reports may have been a little overblown, with optimism over his potential return this season.
According to Maurice, the injury could indeed be a longer issue for the Florida Panthers, but with optimism, he confirmed that he believes Tkachuk will play for them at some point this year, which would be a major boost for their push to go back-to-back in 2025.
Even with Tkachuk out, this is a team that still has the likes of Aleksander Barkov, Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Reinhart leading the way, and if Tkachuk does go on LTIR, that gives them the opportunity before the March 7th trade deadline to push for another piece to boost them before he potentially returns.
This is good news and bad news for Florida, as they're in a solid position in the Atlantic Division playoff race at this point, but if they falter without Tkachuk in the lineup, there's a Wild Card race happening that they don't want to be a part of, so they'll be hoping that he can get back during the regular season and help their push once more.
