The Canadians just received a big blow to their chances of winning the Four Nations faceoff tonight.
All week long there has been chatter and speculation about injuries and illness for both teams as we anticipate the final.
There has been speculation around Team Canada's Cale Makar in particular as he missed the previous game against the United States with illness.
However, Makar is in the lineup for Team Canada tonight. Instead, it is another star defenseman for the team that has succumbed to illness tonight.
That would be Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey. Emergency call up defenseman Thomas Harley will slot into the lineup in his place according to NHL insider Chris Johnston.
Morrissey has 7 goals and 46 points for the Jets this season. He was not going to man the top powerplay as that honor goes to Cale Makar, but he is still one of the countries top defenders, and most important players.
As a result, it will certainly be a tougher game for the Canadians without him.
That being said, Harley is no slouch. The 23-year-old may not have the same offensive pedigree as Morrissey yet, but he is still developing and has proven to be a very good two-way defender so far in his career.
He served admirably well for Canada in the previous matchup against the United States as well, so hopefully he will have a positive impact on their chances tonight.
