Coaching in the National Hockey League is one of the tougher jobs out there and after Barry Trotz was relieved of his duties by the New York Islanders on May 9th this year, he's taken a step back from the game. Under the right circumstances however, we could see him behind an NHL bench in the near future.
On todays episode of the Cam&Strick podcast, here's what Trotz had to say about potentially coaching a Canadian team or a team a part of the original 6
I don't know of any coach that takes a job in Canada ever wants to deal with it. I think there's a-y'know original 6, for me, I've never coached an original 6, that would intrigue me those teams always intrigue you, but the Canadian teams, you're under the microscope, but you sorta are in New York too. I wouldn't say it wouldn't, but you know there's a certain demand on ya. I know some of the Canadian coaches, god you probably can't go anywhere. You know, you step out of a restaurant, people are on Twitter saying you're there. I don't have much of a life. I think it takes a special coach-a special player to play in Canada because there's a different pressure then some of the non-traditional markets
From the sounds of it, Trotz might not want to jump into a Canadian market because of the pressure, however if an original 6 job opens up in the near future, we may see him return behind the bench
