Hockey as a sport has been under fire lately. Many believe hockey as a whole has a culture problem. The thing that keeps happening is hockey players think they can get away with everything because they have skill and some make lots of money, this enables, racism, sexism and practically everything in between.
This latest scandal involves Jakub Lauko, Boston Bruins draft pick is in some hot water over his likes on Twitter, which appear to be racist in nature. Take a look:
Lauko, 22, has played in only 7 National Hockey League games all with the Boston Bruins this season. Collecting 1 goal and 1 assist for a total of two points. He was drafted by the Bruins in the third round of the 2018 draft (77th overall).
I don't suspect any consequences for Lauko's likes tweets, but this doesn't look good for the Bruins. Especially months after they drew criticism for the signing of Mitchell Miller.
With social media, hockey players need to be aware of the fact that fans are going to do things like searching their liked Tweets and messages to try and create controversy. Over the past year controversial tweets have surfaced from players like Jordan Binnington and many others.
