On paper Brad Treliving had one of the best off-season of this past summer. Many went as far to anoint Treliving as the recipient of the General Manager of the Year award, even before a game was played. Unfortunately for the Flames the games aren't played on paper.

Lost in the shuffle of the Flames trading for Jonathan Huberdeau and signing Nazem Kadri, was the Flames also signing Kevin Rooney. The Flames signed Rooney to a 2-year deal with a cap hit of $1,300,000 per season. Last season Rooney was an integral part of the Rangers bottom six and Calgary was hoping he'd be the same for them.

Unfortunately Rooney has only made it into 17 games for the Flames and has been anything but a fit since his arrival. Yesterday the Flames placed Rooney on waivers, which he cleared. Rooney was then demoted to the AHL.

Lost in all of this were tweets that were liked by his brother, which display some obvious discourse with the coaching staff.

This is an interesting wrinkle added to this entire situation and could show that Darryl Sutter continues to lose the locker room. There were reports earlier this season that Jonathan Huberdeau was also frustrated with Sutter after he told reports he left the bench to take a "shit" when he was actually dealing with an injury.

With the Flames sitting on the edge of the playoff picture it could only be a matter of time before the situation in Calgary escalates.
