Los Angeles Kings place former starting goalie on waivers
In shocking news today Chris Johnston announced that Los Angeles Kings have made it official and have placed goaltender Cal Petersen on waivers on Monday.
The move comes after Petersen gave up three goals on 15 shots in relief of Jonathan Quick during the Kings' 9-8 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old, hasn't been good enough this season with a 5-3-2 record. Petersen has an ugly .868 save percentage and 3.75 goals-against average.
The Kings other goalie Quick isn't fairing out much better with a 7-6-2 record, .890 save percentage and 3.30 goals-against average.
Petersen is in the first year of a three-year, $15 million deal and has a modified no-trade clause.
Pheonix Copley is the next goalie on the depth chart in the Kings system. He has played well with the Ontario Reign in the AHL. The LA Kings play next on Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes. It will be interesting to see who head coach Todd McLellan has guarding the home crease.
