The Calgary Flames had what most would call a successful 2021/22 season. The Flames finished on top of the Pacific Division with a 50-21-11 record and 111 points on the year.

However, the Flames were built to be a Stanley Cup team and they failed to reach their ultimate goal. The Flames season ended, losing to the Edmonton Oilers in the second round.

With the playoffs are completed, like every other team there's going to be changes. One of the biggest changes could come with Johnny Gaudreau. Gaudreau appears poised to test the free agent market. The Flames are reported to have given Johnny Hockey a new contract offer, with a salary of $9.5 million dollars annually.

But it appears Gaudreau is yet to respond to the Flames.

With Gaudreau, not responding, one of the biggest surprise may have come from Hockey Insider Andy Strickland. Strickland shared the news the Calgary Flames General Manager, Brad Treliving is looking at the possibility of trading Matthew Tkachuk.

There's no question Treliving would receive a huge return for Tkachuk but the backlash from Flames fans could also be massive for trading away their best player.

Tkachuk scored 42 goals and 104 points this past season and was drafted 6th overall by the Flames in 2016. Tkachuk also is a Memorial Cup champion.

With the prospect of losing Gaudreau appearing to be a real possibility, it appears Treliving is looking at all potential avenues to move forward.
