NHL Insider believes Sheldon Keefe is on the verge of being fired

The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a rough start to the regular season. So far this season the Leafs have gone 4-3-1, but more notably is their winless record against teams that should be outmatched. The Leafs already have losses to Montreal, Arizona and San Jose, 3 likely lottery bound teams.

However, if you look at what the fans and critics have to say, it looks like the buy-in is gone, and the players are lacking effort during their shifts.

It looks like the mirage of the Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe era is lifting, despite their best efforts and according to one insider, Keefe's leash may have just gotten shorter.

With one of the top goal scorers in the game, the Maple Leafs should be an offensive threat, yet their 1st line to begin the season, delivered little on their massive offensive potential. Michael Bunting was even demoted to the third line, due Marner and Mathews inability to score.

This is not a good look for the team, for Auston Matthews, and especially Kyle Dubas, who worked his Soo network to hopefully make the Leafs into a winning team.

The question is when will Brendan Shanahan end the experiment?

Efforts like Thursday's had no such flames in sight. It was another dismal and yet all-too-familiar showing for these Maple Leafs in San Jose, as the club was ultimately out-shot, out-chanced, and out-played by a Sharks team that has its sights set on the 2023 draft's first-overall pick over winning hockey games. Two of their three regulation losses thus far have come against the Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes who are both doing more or less the same thing.

8 games into the season and how many more are we counting down till Keefe gets sacked? An uninspired weekend against both the LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks could spell the end of Keefe.
