It's clear as day that the Chicago Blackhawks are set to tank the season in hopes of winning the NHL Draft Lottery this year. With an elite unquestionable number 1 prospect such as Connor Bedard up for grabs, it's clear that the Blackhawks need a new generational talent to jump start their rebuild.
According to Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, the Blackhawks and Kane have discussed a deadline for the two parties to discuss a potential trade. LeBrun states that General Manager, Kyle Davidson and Patrick Kane have agreed to sit down and discuss Kane's future with the organization in January.
The January deadline will give the Blackhawks plenty of time ahead of the March 3rd Trade Deadline to look at potential offers. At this time Kane hasn't requested a trade, and all the power remains in his control. Kane's no movement clause will allow him to dictate where he plays the remainder of this season, similar to how Claude Giroux made his decision last season. Kane's $10,500,000 salary will also likely require some type of double retention at the deadline to get his salary to a palatable $2,625,000 for most contending teams.
There has also been talk that Kane is considering remaining in Chicago and would like to attempt to break all franchise records, especially if he sees promise in the organization moving forward. The Kane situation remains fluid and is one to watch this year.
