Pierre-Luc Dubois was moved in a blockbuster trade, in exchange fort Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic. In his first full season in Winnipeg Dubois put up career-high numbers with 28 goals in 81 in 2021-2022.
Dubois's current cap hit on his expiring deal is $5 million. The Jets made it clear they were looking to lock Dubois down to a long-term contract, but the forward had other ideas. Dubois has informed the team he has no intention on giving up years of unrestricted free agency. Meaning Dubois will sign a 2-year contract and then test free agency.
Testing free agency in summer 2023, would mean he'd still be an RFA, which would require teams to pay a compensation pick for signing him. But at least one source believes Dubois is intent on forcing the Jets to trade him to the Montreal Canadiens.
