Brother of Former NHLer hit with International Ban for Doping
The brother of a former NHLer has found himself unable to compete internationally for an extended period of time after testing positive for banned substances.
Yannic Seidenberg, the brother of Dennis Seidenberg, has been banned from international competition for four years after he tested positive for testosterone in his system last September. The suspension is retroactive to that positive test. Seidenberg also had DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) in his system. While it is not a controlled substance, the World Anti-doping Agency prohibits its use in sports.
Seidenberg does have the option to appeal the ruling. He's also the subject of a criminal investigation. His current team, EHC Munich, suspended him last year when the positive test was discovered. So far, Seidenberg has not been allowed back. Any personal achievements in international hockey, including points, awards, etc., from January to September of 2022 will be stricken from the record.
Seidenberg has a silver medal from the 2018 Winter Olympics that he can keep. His brother Dennis played in the NHL for 16 years, and won a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011.
