Steven Stamkos has been synonymous with the Tampa Bay Lightning since he joined the team for the 08-09 National Hockey League season, although there have been rumours about his potential departure, it has never happened, but that could change. Stamkos is under contract for the upcoming season, but after that he becomes a free agent, the team he's linked to when his current contract ends will surprise you.
According to Kevin Paul DuPont of the Boston Globe; should Stamkos decide to leave Tampa Bay during free agency next year, the Boston Bruins would be the front runners among others to sign him; take a look.
Stamkos, 33, had another strong season with the Lightning last year. He skated in 81 games putting up 84 points along the way, including 34 goals and 50 assists.
The Bruins and Stamkos would be an ideal fit, Boston likes right handed shot centremen and losing both Bergeron and Krejci to retirement this off-season puts them in the market for an elite centre, which Stamkos clearly still is.
We'll have to wait and see if Stamkos tests the free agent waters in 2024, but if he does watch for the Bruins to make a hard push for his services.
