Rangers defenceman could be the target of an offer sheet this summer
The New York Rangers have some very tough decisions to make this summer on and off the ice, but one of their top priorities will be to re-sign restricted free agents Alexis Lafreniere and K'Andre Miller.
But the latter of the two mentioned above may not be wearing a Rangers jersey by the time the 2023-24 season starts. According to Corey Masisak of The Athletic, K'Andre Miller could be a target of an offer sheet this summer.
"Miller would almost certainly be an offer sheet target if NHL GMs used that option with any sort of regularity." Masisak said.
Miller, 23, had a career-year for the Rangers during the 2022-23 season. In 79 games, Miller put up 43 points (nine goals, 34 assists), 47 penalty minutes and was a plus-12. The St. Paul (Minnesota) native wasn't great during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, only recording one assist in seven games.
If an offer sheet does come in for Miller, Rangers General Manager Chris Drury will have a tough time deciding what to do as there are benefits to both matching the offer and not matching. Matching the offer would keep a young top-four defenceman with the club for potentially quite a few years to come, depending on the contract offered. But if the salary is too high for the Rangers to match, then the compensation they would receive from the other team may be too hard to pass up.
