Montreal has been one of a handful of teams that have been linked with Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras as they continue to search for offensive help and a recent report suggests that the two teams came close on a deal at the end of June.
It was revealed on Tuesday that the Canadiens and Ducks had a deal in place that would have seen Trevor Zegras and a second round pick head to Montreal, while Anaheim would've received defenceman Logan Mailloux and a first round pick.
The deal reportedly failed to go through once the Canadiens got to their second pick of the first round and their target - Michael Hage, was still on the board.
Zegras, 23, was limited to just 31 games during the 2023-24 season due to injuries, registering 15 points (six goals, nine assists), 30 penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
The Bedford, New York native still remains a member of the Anaheim Ducks as of today, but it'll be interesting to see if any teams around the NHL up the ante in trade talks before training camps open in the middle of September.
