In a post on X on Friday, the Boston Bruins shared that former goaltender Blaine Lacher has passed away at the age of 53.
"The Boston Bruins are deeply saddened by the passing of former goalie Blaine Lacher. We send our thoughts and condolences to his family, friends, and teammates." The Bruins said in a statement.
Lacher's former university team, Lake Superior State, where he set and still holds a NCAA record for longest shutout streak, released a statement on their official website.
"Lake Superior State University (LSSU) mourns the loss of hockey alum and NCAA national champion goaltender Blaine Lacher who passed away earlier this week at the age of 53.
Lacher was a member of LSSU's 1994 national championship team, and he was named to the 1994 NCAA All-Tournament Team. During the 1993-94 season, Lacher set the NCAA shutout streak record with 375 minutes and one second without allowing a goal, a record that still stands to this day." Lake Superior State said.
