Rumors have swirled that Jeremy Swayman is reportedly trying to set the goalie market at an all time high. The young goalie has made it clear that he's going to do what's best for him and not for the Boston Bruins. This has left the Bruins front office incredibly frustrated.
Earlier this summer Don Sweeney, Boston Bruins General Manager, came out swinging andwent after the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast. Sweeney was unhappy about the reports that the podcast had shared. Despite disputing the reports Ryan Whitney stood behind the information he'd reported.
Now after Swayman has held out for all of training camp, Bruins President Cam Neely came out today swinging. Neely didn't hold back when he openly admitted how much money had been offered to Swayman.
It's very rare for a team to openly come out and share this sort of information. After a contentious negotiations, it's interesting to see the Bruins coming out and saying how much money they've offered a player. This could go a very long way to damaging the public perception of the goaltender, and could upset Swayman.
With an agent like Lewis Gross, it's a very dangerous strategy to attempt to disparage Swayman. Gross, of course, has a history of having his players hold out, most recently, with William Nylander. It will be interesting to see if this drives Swayman back to the negotiating table, or if he will dig his heels in further.
Either way, this is a terrible look for the Bruins and not something that this group needs right now as they look to remain competitive.
