Montreal Canadiens fans and the like were left puzzled as to why the league chose not to punish Toronto Maple Leafs, Cedric Paré,

The National Hockey League laid down the law on Montreal Canadiens defenceman Arber Xhekaj for his actions Saturday night but a key piece of the puzzle has fans and the such in a frenzy and rightfully so.

Many believe that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Cedric Paré should have been suspended as well or at least given a fine, as the hit he initiated caused Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine to miss the remainder of the game after he was helped off the ice. While that isn't concerning enough, Laine was seen on crutches with his knee in a brace afterwards. So the question is this: Where is the fairness in all of it? If the league was willing to give Xhekaj a fine, why wasn't Paré reprimanded for what many believe and what it looked like as a knee-on-knee hit?

Lots of people have voiced their opinion about the situation including one-time Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban who was absolutely irate with the entire situation and let his voice be heard, but it went further than that.

According to reports Montreal head coach Martin St Louis appeared to be disappointed with the situation but behaved as if calmer heads must prevail and they have to move forward. But that still doesn't answer the question as to why Pare wasn't punished for what he did.

If you're going to use the theory that you're going to rob Peter to pay Paul, you're barking up the wrong tree because as per usual, nothing with the NHL Player Safety makes sense. Is it a case of playing favourites?

It's unlikely that the league and the Toronto Maple Leafs have some sort of hush-hush agreement set out, but it feels a little suspect. While Xhekaj was forced to pony up between $3300-3400, Paré didn't get a second look. The league parity Is quite concerning
