Bruins prospect stepping away from hockey for the foreseeable future
A Boston Bruins prospect has made the decision to step away from hockey for the foreseeable future after a tough 2023-24 campaign.
The 2023-24 season wasn't how Boston Bruins prospect Cole Spicer expected it to go. After recording nine points in 17 games during his second year with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Spicer was deemed academically ineligible for the remainder of the season. He was added to the roster of the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL, but never appeared in a game for them.
Spicer was removed from the University of Minnesota-Duluth's roster this week and told the Duluth News Tribune that he's done with hockey for the foreseeable future and needs to work on some personal and mental stuff right now.
Spicer said he is done playing hockey "for the foreseeable future."
"I need to figure out some personal and mental stuff first," Spicer said. "Right now I need to take a step away and figure a couple things out."
"Just a reminder to the fans on here
you never know what someone is going through and why they make the decisions they do. I doubt someone who spent their whole life playing hockey would make this choice easily
I hope @ColeSpicer_10 finds his love for the game again"
After not playing for the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, Spicer was named to the Bruins' Development Camp roster, but needs to take some time away from hockey in order to work on personal issues. Hopefully Spicer is able to get the help he needs as mental health comes first before worrying about having to play hockey again.
