Mitch Marner's name has been all over the Toronto media this summer for all the wrong reasons. From rumors of a trade to, to talk about a possible extension and everything in between. So when Marner scheduled his annual charity event the forward has a difficult decision to make.
Should be do things as he's always done and create a media circus? Or should he take an alternative approach? Either way he'd be the center of attention.
Marner made the decision to ban all TSN and Sportsnet media from the event in an attempt to avoid any distractions from the cause. David Alter of The Hockey News revealed the following information:
Instead of meeting with major media, Marner opted to meet with other media, but under strict direction, NO QUESTIONS ABOUT THE LEAFS.
It's hard to believe that a player, who is only as popular as he is because of his career, was unwilling to answer any hockey related questions. This has led to speculation that Marner may no longer be a fit for this hockey crazed market. Only time will tell how things play out, but if Marner is unable to handle the media circus that will surround him this fall, it could be a long year.
