Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins appear to be at an impasse when it comes to contract talks. As has been reported Swayman is looking for an eight-year deal while the Bruins do not agree on the terms he was seeking, this furthering his contract holdout .
According to a Boston sports radio personality, if the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman cannot agree on a contract, it's more than likely one of two things will happen, either Swayman's holdout will continue into the regular season or he'll be dealt.
Swayman 25, is reportedly looking for an eight-year contract with an AAV of at least $8 million or above. Coming off of last season it makes a little bit of sense but do you want to commit that much money to a 25-year-old who still has to prove that he can be a starting goaltender and not in a 1A, 1B goaltending tandem?
If I'm the Boston Bruins, I'm hesitant to give Jeremy Swayman the contract that he desires, but you can't afford to go into the season with the current situation the way it is, it puts them in a tough spot. At the very least you know Swayman is capable of performing half of the regular season games during a National Hockey League season. It seems that beyond Swayman the outlook in the Bruins crease is very, very uncertain.
All in all, we have to wait and see what happens with the situation and how it all plays out, but if I'm the Boston Bruins or their fans, this new update makes me very very worried. Not only because Swayman will continue to hold out, but because I believe trading him wouldn't benefit the Bruins the way they would need it to.
