The National Hockey League season is just around the corner. Rookies have reported and rookie tournaments have begun, with that some exciting things are sure to happen between now and the regular season puck drop on September 21st.
This week at one such rookie tournament happening in Buffalo, New York, the Sabres' Ty Cheveldayoff who signed an AHL deal with the Rochester Americans & Nick DeAngelis of the Columbus Blue Jackets went toe to toe in a spirited tilt with Cheveldayoff getting the better of the two.
Later in the game Buffalo defenceman Jack Bodin got the best of Blue Jackets defenceman Mael Lavigne later in the game while the Sabres were protecting a 3-1 lead. The Sabres ultimately came out on top with the score ending 3-1.
Rookie camp is an opportunity for young players to show the team that's taken a chance on them why they did, this fight was no exception. While it seems like fighting is decreasing across hockey, being able to drop the gloves is still an important skill to have and to show in your arsenal. While some hockey players can produce by putting pucks in the net, others need to find ways to show they belong, hence, fighters are born.
