This was supposed to be the year that the Buffalo sabers finally ended their Stanley Cup playoff drought. Unfortunately for them, a slow start and multiple injuries derailed that quest. A late season surge left the team just outside of the playoffs but that wasn't enough to save people's jobs.

Morning, the Buffalo Sabres announced they have fired head coach Don Granato and multiple members of his coaching staff. The news was first reported by Chris Johnston of Sportsnet.

The #sabres have fired head coach Don Granato.

Assistant coach Jason Christie and video coordinator Matt Smith are also out in Buffalo.

This new services just hours after Jimmy Murphy of Boston hockey now reported. Major changes were incoming in Buffalo. Granato finishes his tenure with the Sabres with a record of 122-125-27. During his time as head coach the Sabres never finished higher than 5th in the Atlantic division.

Buffalo is currently tied for the longest post-season drout in pro Sports. The team has not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 season where they lost in the conference quarter-finals to the Philadelphia Flyers in seven games.

With so much talent Buffalo will continue to try to build moving forward, but only time will tell if they are able to find the right answers to end their drought.
