NHL announces two massive fines for unprofessional conduct

A couple of head coaches in the NHL will have much lighter pockets are receiving huge fines from the National Hockey League. The fines have been levied against Buffalo Sabres coach Don Granato, and Toronto Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe.

Granato will forfeit a total of $25,000 for his actions. The fine stems from an incident during a game against the Florida Panthers last night. Zach Benson received a penalty Granato didn't like, and he let the officials have it, receiving a minor bench penalty in the process.

"Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato has been fined $25,000 for unprofessional conduct directed at the officials that resulted in a bench minor at 9:01 of the third period of NHL Game No. 928 on Tuesday, Feb. 27, the National Hockey League announced today.

The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation."

Meanwhile, Keefe has also been fined after being ejected from a Leafs game Tuesday night.

"Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe has been fined $25,000 for unprofessional conduct directed at the officials that resulted in a game misconduct at 17:46 of the third period of NHL Game No. 931 on Tuesday, Feb. 27, the National Hockey League announced today.

The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation."

The NHL has vowed to crack down on how coaches treat officials in the league. It was the subject of a meeting with GMs and coaches before the 2023-24 season began.
