One of their biggest weaknesses thus far has been their goaltending, with Antti Raanta and Petyor Kochetkov sharing the duties between the pipes due to the absence of Frederik Andersen, who actually played very well before being sidelined with a blood clot issue.
During his 32 Thoughts podcast on Monday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared that the Carolina Hurricanes are preparing for Andersen to miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season and will eventually go out into the trade market to make a move.
In November, the Hurricanes brought in veteran netminder Jaroslav Halak on a professional tryout contract (PTO), but it didn't turn into an actual NHL contract with the organization and he was released.
The Hurricanes shouldn't have an issue trying to go out and acquiring a goaltender, especially considering there are a trio of teams carrying three goaltenders on their NHL roster. Those teams being the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens.
Some of the options from those three teams mentioned above the Carolina Hurricanes could consider are Eric Comrie (Buffalo), Alex Lyon (Detroit) and Jake Allen (Montreal), but they'll more than likely look elsewhere as they look to get back into the playoff hunt.
