What a crazy turn of events for Corey Perry and the Chicago Blackhawks. After convincing Perry to sign in Chicago in order to serve as a mentor to the team's younger players, the Blackhawks have now announced they are terminating his contract. Here's the official statement from the Blackhawks.
No word on what happened. There were rumours that Perry had engaged in some unsavoury behaviour with a teammate's mother. However, the team itself has stated that is false.
Perry has signed a one-year $4 million deal with Chicago before the start of the season. It was an overpayment to get Perry to sign there as he had said he only wanted to play for a contender, and Chicago is nowhere near that right now. At 38 years old, this termination could spell the end of the Stanley Cup Champion's NHL career.
