The Chicago Blackhawks would come away with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, but just over a minute before the game came to a close, chaos ensued.
With the Avalanche net empty, Nathan MacKinnon went to keep the puck in at the blue line and dumped it back into the Blackhawks' corner. After he dumps the puck to the corner, out of nowhere, Colin Blackwell lights up Nathan MacKinnon, hitting him from behind into the boards.
Ryan Johansen came to the defence of Nathan MacKinnon and ended up getting a two-minute minor for roughing on Colin Blackwell, as well as a ten-minute misconduct, while Blackhawks defenceman Isaak Phillips also was handed a ten-minute misconduct on the play.
The Blackhawks and Avalanche won't meet again until February 29th, followed by another game against each other six days later on March 5th. It's going to be interesting to see if there will be any carry over and if Blackwell will need to drop the mitts and answer for his actions.
