During line rushes in their skate on September 8th, the Avalanche appeared to try out a new-look first line that featured Mikko Rantanen, Nathan MacKinnon and his former Halifax Mooseheads teammate, Jonathan Drouin.
Already, we are looking at a line of Drouin-MacKinnon-Rantanen. This one could be scary if Drouin can do his thing. #Avs #GoAvsGo @TheRinkColorado pic.twitter.com/IVrIe6Kvr0 Brennan Vogt (@brennan_vogt) September 8, 2023
Drouin and MacKinnon have been connected at the hip since the skates begin, according to several sources and video on Monday showed them working on a passing and shooting drill.
If Drouin can find his form and revive the chemistry he had with Nathan MacKinnon while in the QMJHL with Halifax, they could be one of the most dangerous duos in the entire National Hockey League. Add in Mikko Rantanen, who's coming off his first 50-goal and 100-point season and they could form one of the best first lines in the NHL, but it's all dependent on how Jonathan Drouin plays.
The first opportunity we'll have to see MacKinnon and Drouin play together in a game will come on Sunday, September 24th against the Minnesota Wild.
