Alexander Georgiev saw the bulk of action for the Colorado Avalanche last year, playing 62 regular season games. No team wants their netminder to have to play that many games before the playoffs begin, but it appears the Avs will have to hit the open market for backup after bad news about their other netminder.

According to Frank Seravalli, Pavel Francouz, who played just 16 games last season because of a nagging injury, hasn't recovered from offseason surgery.

"Avs appear to be examining options on the goalie market. Sounds like Pavel Francouz has not completely recovered from his offseason adductor surgery and there is concern he will miss some time." - Frank Seravalli

There are other goaltenders in the Avs system, but no one with significant NHL experience. That means GM Chris MacFarland will be speaking with other teams to see what he can find. One interesting option for Colorado could be the Montreal Canadiens, who currently have Casey DeSmith, Jake Allan, and Sam Montembeault. DeSmith seems to be the guy most likely to be moved by the Habs. He has tons of regular season experience, although just one NHL playoff game.
