This season has been a nightmare for the Colorado Avalanche thus far, with the team posting a 2-4-0 record through six games, and while they've won their last two, it hasn't been pretty. The biggest issue for this team is goaltending, and although injuries certainly don't help, starter Alexandar Georgiev posting a 4.99 GAA and an .811 save percentage through five appearances is a major problem.
The team picked up Kaapo Kahkonen via waivers from the Winnipeg Jets, but the team may be on the verge of making a huge move, at least according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, who has speculated the team could acquire a rising young star in Mackenzie Blackwood.
Blackwood was not in net for the Avalanche's victory over the San Jose Sharks in their recent encounter, and while his numbers this season don't look great, he posted a solid 3.45 GAA and an .899 save percentage through 45 games for a terrible Sharks team a year ago. With the team acquiring Yaroslav Askarov in the off-season, they'll look to get him in the NHL this year, and whether it's Vitek Vanecek or Blackwood, one will likely need to make way for the young star.
The Avalanche have certainly steadied the ship after a dreadful start to the year, but there's still plenty of question marks over Georgiev, so if Friedman is right, this could be a huge option for Colorado at some point this season.
