Johnny Gaudreau spent his NHL career with the Calgary Flames and the Columbus Blue Jackets, and tonight the two cities came together to hold candlelight vigils to honor the memory of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau after their tragic deaths last Thursday.

The Blue Jackets held their candlelight vigil outside Nationwide Arena with 13:21 of silence in tribute to the Gaudreau brothers. Johnny wore #13 throughout his hockey career and Matthew wore #21.

Calgary held their candlelight vigil at the fan-created memorial outside the Saddledome.

Johnny spent nine seasons in Calgary after getting drafted 104th overall during the 2011 NHL draft. In the summer of 2022, Johnny signed a seven-year deal with Columbus.

Matthew and Johnny were teammates at Boston College during the 2013-14 season, when Johnny won the Hobey Baker Award.

It's nice to see the hockey world come together to support spread love, and cherish memories of two young men whose lives were taken far too soon.

It's in times of mourning that you realize the power of community and how special the game of hockey can be in the face of an unthinkable tragedy.

Tonight, Columbus and Calgary and their collective fan bases should be proud of the displays they've put on.
