NHL finally giving an outdoor game to this Eastern Conference team
After the Seattle Kraken participated in the 2024 Winter Classic in January, that left three National Hockey League franchises who haven't stepped outdoors - the Arizona Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Florida Panthers.
But that will now change with an announcement on the horizon regarding the 2025 Stadium Series, which is rumoured to be held on March 1st of next year.
According to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, the Columbus Blue Jackets will finally play an outdoor game next season, which will be the 2025 Stadium Series, as mentioned above. The Blue Jackets' opponent for the 2025 Stadium Series will reportedly be the Detroit Red Wings, who have participated in quite a few outdoor games since the NHL began regularly holding them in 2008.
The venue for the game between the Blue Jackets and Red Wings is expected to be Ohio Stadium, home of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, which holds 102,780 people.
"At long last ... NHL outdoor game finally coming to Columbus. #CBJ will host #LGRW in "Stadium Series" game during 2024-25 season, per source" Portzline said.
After the NHL shared the news over a week ago regarding the Chicago Blackhawks participating in yet another outdoor game in 2025, the Winter Classic, it's nice too see some parity and a different team get the opportunity to play outdoors.
It also gives the NHL to showcase two teams who have younger rosters, bright futures and feature players such Adam Fantilli, Kent Johnson, Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond.
