Car accidents have become a major story in the NHL as of late, and now, former Red Wing Rick Zombo has been seriously injured in another one, according to reports out of St. Louis.

As late as this past weekend, reports have been emerging of hockey players involved in car accidents, and while they don't always involve someone driving impaired, it has unfortunately become a common trend.

Now, reports out of the St. Louis area have revealed that former Detroit Red Wings blue liner Rick Zombo was involved in a car accident, and while it thankfully wasn't fatal, it appears as though he has suffered some serious injuries.

Hearing former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Rick Zombo was involved in a serious automobile accident over the weekend. He is being treated in a St. Louis area hospital. Zombo played 353 games over eight seasons with the Wings. Prayers up for Rick.

The now 61 year old played for Detroit between 1984 and 1992, while going on to play a total of 652 games in the NHL with Detroit, the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues, tallying 24 goals and 154 points during that stretch.

As of right now, it appears that Zombo could make a full recovery from the incident, with very few details beyond the above social media post about the situation as the 61-year old continues to recover in St. Louis.

While he may have never been a star, Zombo is remembered well by those he played with and the fans in Detroit, and no matter what happened with this situation, we hope that he will get back to full health as this is something tragic that you never want to see happen to anybody.
