Red Wings place forward Austin Czarnik on waivers

One day after their season came to a close, the Detroit Red Wings have announced a roster move involving forward Austin Czarnik.

According to CapFriendly, the Detroit Red Wings have placed forward Austin Czarnik on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Czarnik, 31, split the 2023-24 season between the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and in the NHL with the Red Wings. In 36 AHL games, he's put up 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists), ten penalty minutes and is a minus-two. Meanwhile, in 34 games for the Red Wings, Czarnik had one assist, 12 penalty minutes and was a minus-three.


If Czarnik clears waivers on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET, he'll join the Griffins for hte remainder of the 2023-24 season. The Griffins will be playing in the Calder Cup Playoffs this spring and currently sit seventh in the Western Conference and second in the Central Division.
