Former Edmonton Oilers prospect forced to retire at 28-year-old
According to reports, a former Edmonton Oilers prospect Bogdan Yakimov has been forced to retire from professional hockey at the age of 28 due to injury-related issues.
Yakimov was selected by the Oilers in the third round (83rd overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and went on to play parts of two seasons in their organization between 2014 and 2016.
The Nizhnekamsk, Russia native spent the majority of his time in the American Hockey League with the Oklahoma City Barons and Bakersfield Condors, but also appeared in one National Hockey League game with the Oilers and that came on October 14th, 2014 against the Los Angeles Kings.
Yakimov was loaned to the KHL by the Oilers for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons before opting to remain in the Russian league for the rest of his playing career. He last played in the KHL during the 2021-22 season with Dynamo Moscow, before missing this most recent campaign with an injury, which ultimately forced him to hang up the skates.
