The Edmonton Oilers have given a known locker room problem a professional tryout.

After a successful 2023-24 campaign where they made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers will look to replicate that this season and will be doing so after a relatively active offseason, with their most recent addition coming via a PTO on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they've signed veteran forward Mike Hoffman to a professional tryout (PTO), meaning he'll join them for training camp and preseason games. At the conclusion of training camp, the Oilers will either have to sign Hoffman to a standard NHL contract for the year or release him to become an unrestricted free agent again.

"The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Mike Hoffman to a professional tryout (PTO)." The team said in a statement on their website.

While everyone knows what Mike Hoffman is capable of on the ice, when he's healthy and at the top of his game, but it's off the ice that could be a worry. During his time with the Ottawa Senators, there was a spat between his wife and Erik Karlsson's wife which eventually made its way to the public after behind the scenes drama which included online harassment allegations.

There's no doubt that the Oilers have done their due diligence and are confident that there will be no issues with Mike Hoffman, but are confident in their leadership group to deal with anything that comes up in the locker room.

Last season while with the San Jose Sharks, Hoffman registered 23 points (ten goals, 13 assists), 20 penalty minutes and was a minus-21.
