On Monday night, the Edmonton Oilers saw captain Connor McDavid go down with an injury, with most fans collectively holding their breath since then in hopes that it's not a serious injury. The first update from Insider Frank Seravalli was a positive one, as he revealed best case scenario, McDavid would miss a similar amount of games to Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, and now it has been confirmed by Elliotte Friedman.
According to the NHL's top Insider, McDavid will indeed miss a few weeks, and while the complete timeline is yet unknown, this is definitely a positive update for a team that simply couldn't afford to miss McDavid long-term. Without No. 97 on the ice, the Oilers were blown away 6-1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and with a 4-5-1 record with him in the lineup, they'll need plenty of players to step up around him if they want to stay afloat without him.
Last season, McDavid missed just six games due to injury, pushing through the pain several times to play on through nagging issues, so there's absolutely no way anyone at this point can doubt his toughness. While the Edmonton Oilers would prefer him on the ice every night, this is definitely an update that will allow the fans to breathe a sigh of relief, because any injury to do with the ankle or knee can always be a scary one, so to miss just a few weeks is a lucky break for McDavid, who looks to get his team back to the Stanley Cup Finals to go one step further in 2024/25.
