The Edmonton Oilers hired Stan Bowman as their general manager today and to fans are not too happy about, even going so far as to start a petition.

Earlier in the off-season, Oilers CEO of Hockey Operations Jeff Jackson said he had no interest in being the general manager long term and that he would be finding a new GM before long.

Today, the Oilers hired Stan Bowman as their general manager and to say fans aren't too happy with the hire given his past with the Chicago Blackhawks would be an understatement. In fact, according to Puck Empire, they have organized a petition to get Bowman out of the organization all together.

Bowman of course stepped down with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021 after what happened in the Blackhawks organization in 2010. He was reinstated by the National Hockey League and eligible to sign a new contract as of July 10th.

It certainly is a questionable hire to say the least and if fans of your organization are willing to go to these kind of lengths to get Bowman out of the Oilers organization, you should probably take note.

Edmonton was moving in the right direction and the hiring of Stan Bowman feels like they've burned all of the good will they've built with their fanbase.
